Forumul medierii 2022

Intro

The 2022 edition of the Cultural Mediation Forum, with the theme Participation!, explores the potential of different forms of cultural participation to reflect openness, inclusion and appreciation for diversity, to represent and create a space of democracy.

Educators and mediators, managers, researchers and students, artists and public policy analysts meet at the Forum. We are still reeling from the impact of the pandemic, we recognize the need to reflect and capitalize on the new ways of working and skills developed over the last two years, and we want to discuss the way forward.

Cultural practices, which in the last two years have gone through a period of retreat into the private space and connecting with the public in the online environment, are returning to the public space. We are still reeling from the impact of the pandemic, we recognize the need to reflect and capitalize on the new ways of working and skills developed over the last two years, and we want to discuss the way forward. Schools, institutions and cultural and educational NGOs are making efforts to respond to the humanitarian crisis generated by the war. We observe the acceleration of climate change, the inequalities generated by the rising costs of everyday life, and we are concerned about the democratic course of the worlds in which we live. To embrace the diversity of the worlds we live in and to respond together to social problems, we need skills centered around democratic values, solidarity and inclusion.

We know that cultural participation activates the potential of art to generate meaning, convey civic values, form communities (beyond the audience) and support learning. The equity of access to culture also refers to attention to the different profiles of the public, to support for its involvement and creative expressions – not only as a passive consumer of culture, but also in dialogue with art and artists, interested in learning an artistic practice or involved in co-creation processes.

We are interested in how cultural mediators engage children in dialogue with art and with each other, giving them a place to express themselves, educating them and encouraging the conversations that matter. We invite you to know different forms of cultural participation and discuss how they recognize the diversity of voices and perspectives of children and young people, transforming cultural mediation into an exercise of education as a “laboratory of democracy” (Charter of Porto Santo, Council of the European Union, 2021).
