Appreciation and reciprocity: how can relationships and community define well-being?

Workshop held by REPER21 Association

Democratic power, in our Western societies, is based on the promise of “well-being” for citizens. But what meaning do we attach to this concept? And what is the capacity of cultural mediators to (re)negotiate it? The workshop offers cultural mediators the opportunity to develop a new perspective on the concept of well-being, born out of the Western cultural matrix and nowadays disseminated on a global scale. Participants will be places in a context to perceive, analyze and renegotiate the values and principles of our Western well-being from an outsider’s point of view – that of “Buen Vivir”, a concept that originated in the cultural matrix of pre-Columbian communities and has spread to the national societies of Latin America. By experiencing this decentralization, cultural mediators will be better able to reflect, in a different way, on the relativity of certain cultural values and norms that underpin political power in our society.
