Intro
This year’s edition of the Cultural Mediation Forum proposes an exploration of the encounter between arts and sciences in the practice and theory of their communication, of cohabitation in the approaches of educators, artists and managers.
In a rapidly changing world, where it is sometimes difficult for us to see direction and meaning, art and science offer ways to access reality in ways that are complementary, socially essential, and beneficial to our personal – emotional and cognitive – development.
Cultural participation and appetite for the sciences are influenced by the existence of a symbolic distance. The impact of this range is reflected in the degree of involvement and the extent to which the ways of knowing that art and science offer are valued.
Regarding culture, we have unfortunately become accustomed to looking with concern, but without panic, at the extremely low level of cultural consumption, the reduced number of opportunities for education through and for culture, and the poor integration of the arts in school. When we talk about science, however, we recognize that mistrust and a lack of quality learning experiences have extremely serious consequences.
Cultural mediation and science communication are meaning-generating, educational and bring about a reduction of symbolic distance. Through the methods and tools they use, they can inspire and open useful avenues for questioning the nature of truth, the role of creativity, the value of dialogue and the fair measure of knowledge negotiation.
This year’s program of the Forum encourages the exchange of ideas and experiences about how we understand the integrated approach of arts and science in school and curatorial practices, about how public funding policies encourage certain practices of mediation, about the forms it can about the collaboration between art and science in educational programs and how we prepare to achieve quality cultural and scientific mediation.
