Workshop #3
The meeting presents how, starting from the desire to know and enjoy responsibly the cultural values and the natural potential of some territories with a well-defined identity, during several years the development of several educational materials and practices was achieved, formal and informal, in the two UNESCO geoparks in Romania.
According to UNESCO, “geoparks are territorially coherent territories where sites and landscapes of significant geological importance are managed under a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development.” In Romania there are two territories that have been recognized, thanks to the extensive work of research, education and responsible tourism promotion and the multi-year collaboration between the local administration, cultural and educational actors, based on a special natural and cultural potential: Hațegului Land (since 2005) and Buzăului Land (from 2022). Both spaces benefited from the support of the University of Bucharest in the documentation stage and the professional accompaniment of a team of researchers, led and inspired by the geologist professor Alexandru Andrășanu, the manager of several dedicated educational and cultural projects.
