Re:form – experimental programme for rethinking cultural work

What if solidarity, inclusion, empathy, empathy, respect and other values practiced through the arts were also part of the day-to-day experience of those working in the cultural sector?

Re:form is a programme designed to provide frameworks for exploring, developing and piloting new models of working in the cultural sector, based on individual and collective care, the health and wellbeing of cultural operators and equity as a core principle in working practices. The program addresses the fragility that defines work in culture, the vulnerability and susceptibility to burnout faced by professionals in the sector.

Through the 2024/2025 edition, we aim to initiate a collective reflection approach consisting of thematic workshops, support sessions, a retreat dedicated to artists and cultural operators, individual mentoring sessions, artistic residencies, a podcast and an international conference. We address the need to change the way we work and relate to our work and take steps towards a (more) healthy and sustainable working environment.

Through Re:form we want to:

  • Address challenges in the cultural sector in an empathetic and humane way, making space for vulnerability and honest conversations about the difficulty and fragility of cultural work;
  • Create a space for connection, dialog and peer-to-peer learning to help us become more aware of the needs of cultural sector professionals;
  • Reflect, together with other practitioners and specialists, on the language we use when we talk about the need for a healthy and sustainable working environment for cultural operators;
  • Cultivate care for self and others in the environments in which we work;
  • Analyze the subtle ways in which we have internalized, at an individual level, systemic oppression and explore (micro)actions and patterns that can help us to gradually generate change within and around us;
  • Find, through regenerative and reflective activities, ways to re:connect to the mission, vision and values that guide us in our work.

Re:form is Cluj Cultural Centre’s programme for rethinking work in culture. The programme aims to support processes that aspire to go beyond traditional models of organizational development, taking into account the specificities of the independent cultural sector and the fragile conditions in which it operates in Romania.

Project co-funded by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund and the Municipality of Cluj-Napoca.
